While his core expertise are complex cardio-vascular operations, he also has long years of experience in building medical teams, building all functions of modern hospitals from planning, equipment, IT, developing new marketing and patient information solutions, implementing clinical governance standards as well as applied cost and quality parameter assessment and control mechanism.
Graduated MD from the Medical University of Vienna, graduated with a post-PhD teaching license (Habilitation, University of Freiburg, Germany). Fully qualified cardiac surgeon, gained his qualifications at the Universities of Vienna - Austria, Hong Kong, Cape Town - South Africa and Freiburg - Germany.
Served as a war surgeon in a Red Cross field hospital during the Cambodian jungle guerilla war at the Thailand-Cambodian border.
Worked as deputy head at Europe's largest heart center (Rhön-Clinic) in Bad Neustadt, recognized as one of Europe's best managed and financially most successful centers at that time in order to learn modern medical management methods and medical cost management, parallel to refining his practise as heart surgeon in a high volume center.
His leadership record includes starting up and heading the Heart Center in Ingolstadt, Germany - Entrepreneur, CEO & project development of a private Austrian Heart Center in cooperation with the US Cleveland Clinic and InterContinental Hotel Group - the German Hospital in Tirana, Albania - the Jilin Heart Hospital in Changchun, China - the TreeTop Hospital in the Maldives - and the Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Was appointed Director of Health for a strategic analysis of the St Helena Health Directorate to become more cost effective, to restructure & reorganize the St Helena health care system.
Vice President Medical Affairs - Medpoint Asia. As part of this role Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the R&F Hospital in affiliation with UCLA Health in Guangzhou, China to start up this private international hospital. During my time as CMO the MPL (Medical Practice License) was issued for a class II hospital to allow the hospital to open and treat patients.
Currently appointed by the Medical University Vienna International as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to start up the private ASA Hospital in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
Continued a vigorous program of medical research parallel to his heart surgery practice, started several basic research laboratories at the Universities in Vienna, Cape Town and Freiburg which were one of the first ever to start successful tissue engineering and gene technology clinical studies. Has received 24 international awards and research grants and published about 300 publications, about 100 of them original articles and abstracts.

Parallel to working as a cardiac surgeon in Vienna and Skopje I had my main interest as CEO and entrepreneur for the start-up project development of a private Heart Centre & combined hotel in Austria. This venture, in cooperation with the US Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) and the InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) was aiming to realize a highly specialized private Cardiac Centre in Austria. A 150 bed private medical facility in combination with a 200 bed hotel was developed up to the finalized bank financing [62 Mio€ bank leasing and raised seed investment of 22 Mio€] with all permissions for realization and starting construction. The project was sold to an Austrian government group - the new hospital opened as psychosomatic clinic in 2011.
