2012 - 2016 ✧ Jilin Heart Hospital, Changchun, China - Head of Cardiac Surgery

One of the first non-Chinese doctors to head a new private heart hospital in China. Organized the logistics and medical start-up of a 300 bed, 40 ICU bed, specialized cardiac center for adult and pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery. The Jilin Heart Hospital became University Teaching Hospital of the Jilin Beihua University in 2015.

It was my responsibility to organize the pre-opening and opening, to organize and set the medical and clinical standards and operational procedures and select the personnel and attract specialist expatriate doctors from abroad. The main focus was to establish a bi-lingual english/chinese work environment and language training including also IT and documentation and organizing effective clinical governance. Established a continuous education and training for doctors and nurses on a regular daily basis. Since there was hardly any medical (western-like) infrastructure available in the rural province, our main organizational effort was focused to start a basic follow-up program for our patients. Started a completely new cardiac physiotherapy and rehabilitation program, since this was not usually known in China at that time. 

Our biggest success was the start of a novel social health care reimbursement model program in the Jilin Province - the JIXIN Program (Ji - Jilin/ 吉  Xin - Heart/ 心) - that allows a 100% cost coverage for cardiac diagnosis and treatment for the Jilin province population in our hospital. This allowed for the first time a real medical diagnosis and treatment of the heart for the rural population.

° The Jilin Heart Hospital became the largest and busiest heart center of the Jilin Province.

° The Jilin Heart Hospital was selected 'Leading Private Hospital' by the Chinese Hospital Association - November 2015.
