A cardiovascular surgeon with over 30 years of leadership experience, I have established and developed tertiary and heart surgery hospitals from the ground up in various locations, including Europe and Asia, notably in China.

While my primary expertise lies in complex cardiovascular surgeries, I also possess extensive experience in building and managing medical teams and spearheading the development of hospital infrastructure, including planning, equipment procurement, information technology, and the implementation of new marketing and patient information solutions. Additionally, I have worked extensively on setting clinical governance standards and establishing cost and quality control mechanisms.

I earned my medical degree from the Medical University of Vienna and a post-PhD teaching license (Habilitation) from the University of Freiburg, Germany, where I also became a fully qualified cardiac surgeon. My training was conducted at institutions such as the Universities of Vienna, Hong Kong, Cape Town, and Freiburg.

Early in my career, I served as a war surgeon at a Red Cross field hospital during the Cambodian jungle guerrilla war on the Thailand-Cambodian border.

Served as deputy head at Europe's largest heart center (Rhön-Clinic) in Bad Neustadt, recognized as one of Europe's best managed and financially most successful centers at that time in order to learn modern medical management methods and medical cost management, parallel to refining his practise as heart surgeon in a high volume center.

My leadership roles include launching and leading the Heart Center in Ingolstadt, Germany; being an entrepreneur and CEO in the development of a private Austrian Heart Center in collaboration with the US Cleveland Clinic and InterContinental Hotel Group; and establishing hospitals in Tirana, Albania; Changchun, China; the Maldives; and Papua New Guinea.

I also served as Director of Health on St Helena, analyzing and recommending cost-effective restructuring for the island's healthcare system.

As Vice President of Medical Affairs at Medpoint Asia, I also acted as Chief Medical Officer for the R&F Hospital in Guangzhou, China, in association with UCLA Health, where I facilitated the opening of this international hospital.

Since summer 2023, I have been appointed by the Medical University Vienna International as Chief Medical Officer for the startup of the private ASA Hospital in Sarajevo, Bosnia. In the six months since opening, the hospital has seen a monthly increase in patient numbers and revenue of approximately 30-40%.

Alongside my clinical work, I maintained an active program of medical research. I have set up basic research laboratories in Vienna, Cape Town, and Freiburg, pioneering tissue engineering and gene technology clinical studies. I have served as a medical advisor to various US medical companies and startups and have received 24 international awards and research grants. My academic contributions include nearly 300 publications, with roughly 100 as original articles and abstracts.
